Facebook to reach 500 million users this week

Facebook is expected to finally reach a momentous 500 million users during the next week, and how are they going to celebrate the new occassion? With new features of course!

The launch of ‘Facebook Stories’ is expected to be a visual memorial of all the ways social networking has influenced and changed peoples lives.

Randi Zuckerberg made the announcement last week, stating that ‘this time the company wants it to be all about the users’, not just the numbers.

Facebook Stories is set to organise actual user submitted stories by location and theme. For example this could be a story on finding love or of natural disasters. Facebook stories will also be limited to the 420 characters, they same as a Facebook Status.

The growth of Facebook is absolutely phenomenal; if Facebook was a country, it’d be the third largest in the World.

Facebook reached 400 million users in February, and the same time in 2009, it had only just reached 200 million. It was also only November 2008 when Facebook hit the 100 million user mark.

And if your interested, check out Facebook’s growth on the chart below, and it still hasn’t really slowed down. It’s not growing at an exponential rate, but at very least, its sustaining its growth rate.
